Before We Start

Facebook has recently updated their TOS to require domain verification when tracking conversion events. Domain Verification allows you to confirm with Facebook that you own the domain that you are using the pixel with. See more about domain verification here. 

By default (and on the KickoffLabs Free tier) we publish the pages to a .kickoffpages.com or kickofflabs.com domain. Unfortunately, as a domain’s ownership cannot be claimed by more than one person, the KickoffLabs domains cannot be used. Instead, you will need to connect a custom domain/subdomain of your choosing to publish your KickoffLabs pages to and verify the custom domain with Facebook.  

Installing Facebook Pixel Base Tracking Script

1. First, you will need to locate your Facebook Pixel  base script. Follow Facebook’s steps on generating your personal tracking script here: https://www.facebook.com/business/help/952192354843755?id=1205376682832142
2. From the dashboard top nav select Setup > All Settings
3. Next, access your campaign Analytics & Tracking Codes Settings
4. Paste the base script into the Header area and save your changes.

Setting up Facebook Pixel Conversion Tracking

In order for Facebook to track the conversion (when a lead successfully signs up), you will also need to install a conversion tracking script to your KickoffLabs page. Facebook offers several conversion tracking events. Using KickoffLabs, you’ll generally only want to track the ‘Lead’ event. This lets you track when a user expresses interest in your offering, like when they sign up for your KickoffLabs campaign. In the following example, we’ll be using the ‘Lead’ event.

Next, copy the script for the Facebook Pixel here. (we’ve also provided the script below).

Integrating KickoffLabs With Shopify

Before connecting to Zapier, you’ll first need to create a landing page for the initial lead signup. This is needed for referral tracking, especially if you’re wanting to award points to someone who referred a purchase. This can be achieved by either:

• Creating a KickoffLabs landing page
• Installing a KickoffLabs embed onto the Shopify store
• Installing a KickoffLabs popup onto the Shopify store

A few  example flows for this setup would be:

Awarding points for making a purchase:

Lead signs up on KickoffLabs hosted landing page > Lead is redirected to their unique status section where they can share with friends/check stats > Lead then goes on to make a purchase on the Shopify store > Lead is awarded points for the purchase

Awarding points for referring a purchase:

Lead signs up on KickoffLabs hosted landing page > Lead is redirected to their unique status section where they can share with friends/check stats > Lead shares their unique share URL with their friend > friend signs up as a lead > friend goes on to make a purchase on the Shopify store > Referrer is awarded points for referring someone who made a purchase

Integrating With Shopify via Zapier

1. First create a lead tag in KickoffLabs. Follow the steps here to create your first tag. 
2. Then login to Zapier and create a Zap.
3. Select Shopify as the app that you’d like to push leads from.
4. Select “New Order” from the event trigger dropdown.
5. Next, Zapier will prompt you to sign in to connect your Shopify account.
6. You will need to enter your myshopify.com store URL in order to continue. Once connected the window will close and you’ll be taken to your Zapier setup where you can continue.
7. Zapier will now prompt you to test the trigger step. If everything is setup correctly so far, you’ll see a success message with the ability to move onto the next step.
8. Next, select KickoffLabs for the Action step in Zapier.
9. Next, select “Tag Lead” from the event dropdown. If you’d like to tag the lead who referred the purchaser, you’ll want to instead select “Tag Lead Parent.”
10. You’ll now be prompted to connect your KickoffLabs account to Zapier if you haven’t done so before. If you’ve connected your KickoffLabs account in the past, you’ll see your previously connected campaigns listed.
11. A new window will open to enter the KickoffLabs Campaign ID and API Key.
12. This can be found on the right side of  your KickoffLabs Zapier integration page (accessible in KickoffLabs via Setup > Integrations > Zapier). Once you enter the details and continue, the window should close and you’ll be taken back to your Zapier setup.
13. Next, map the Shopify email field into the “Lead Email” field and select your KickoffLabs lead tag for the “Tag ID” field in Zapier.
14. Test out your integration and turn on the zap! If everything is setup correctly, you should see the lead tagged in KickoffLabs.

Tagging a lead can come in handy when you want to track a lead’s actions outside of KickoffLabs. Award points for things like creating an account, completing a survey, making a purchase and more. In this guide, we’ll walk through:

• Tagging a lead who completes a survey
• Tagging a lead who makes a purchase or refers a purchase

Before connecting to Integrately, first create a lead tag in KickoffLabs. Follow the steps here to create your first tag. 

Tagging a Lead Who Completes a Survey

In this example, we’ll use Typeform, however you can replicate the steps for other survey platforms aswell (aslong as the platform offers an Integrately or similar connection).

1. To get started, login to Integrately and create a new automation.
2. Choose the app that you’d like to push leads from. In this example, we’ll be using Typeform.
3. Next, select KickoffLabs as the second app.
4. Select a popular automation or create your own. For this example, we’ll create our own where we select When a lead completes a Typeform survey > Tag them in KickoffLabs.
5. Sign-in to your Typeform account and grant permission to Integrately.
6. Choose the Typeform form you’d like to connect to and test the connection.
7. Next, connect your KickoffLabs account to Integrately.
8. For this step, we recommend opening a new tab to copy your Campaign ID + API Key. From your KickoffLabs campaign dashboard follow the path Setup>All Settings>API Access
9. On the API Access page, copy your Campaign ID and API Key. Back in Integrately, paste the Campaign ID and API Key and paste them into Integrately.
10. Next, map your Typeform email field to KickoffLabs.
11. Then, select the lead tag you’d like to use for the automation.
12. Test the workflow and turn on your automation! Leads should now be tagged with filling out the Typeform in your KickoffLabs Account.

Tagging a Lead for Making a Purchase

In this example, we’ll be using Woocommerce to tag a lead for making a purchase. Outside of our native Shopify rewards integration, you can use lead tags to track purchases on additional platforms (such as PayPal, Stripe, and Woo-commerce).

Lead tags can be used to tag the purchases, person who referred them (or both) and optionally award points.

Before connecting to Integrately, first create a lead tag in KickoffLabs. Follow the steps here to create your first tag. 

1. To get started, login to Integrately and create a new automation.
2. Choose the app that you’d like to push leads from. In this example, we’ll be using Woocommerce.
3. Next, select KickoffLabs for the 2nd app. 
4. Next, select a popular automation or create your own. For this example, we’ll create our own where we select When a new order is created in Woocommerce > Tag them in KickoffLabs.
5. Connect your Woocommerce account by pasting in your store url, consumer key, and consumer secret.
6. Next, Integrately will test the connection. If successful, you’ll be able to move to the 2nd part of the setup.
7. Integrately will now prompt you to connect your KickoffLabs account.
8. For this step, we recommend opening a new tab to copy your Campaign ID + API Key. From your KickoffLabs campaign dashboard follow the path Setup>All Settings>API Access
9. On the API Access page, copy your Campaign ID and API Key. Back in Integrately, paste the Campaign ID and API Key and paste them into Integrately.
10. Next, confirm the email field is mapped from Woocommerce and select the lead tag you’d like to use for the automation.
11. Test and turn on your integration. You should begin to see leads tagged and award points when they’ve made a purchase!

How can I add this option to my page?

1. Create a landing page on your campaign to collect leads.
2. In the landing page editor open the “Add Content” sidebar.
3. Scroll down to the Google Signup Button
4. Drag the Google Button onto your landing page + make any styling changes
5. Publish the landing page.

What happens after someone clicks Google signup?

Once someone clicks the Google option they’ll be asked to allow you access to their Email address. They may be asked to log into Google first if they are not signed into the service.

After they allow you access they will be redirected to your thank you page and you’ll have access to their email address in your leads list within the campaign.

A few things to keep in mind while using the Signup With Google action:

• If the signup button is added multiple times, the lead’s signup will only be counted once
• If you have a page level signup with Google button (separate from our actions) and a lead joins that way, we’ll give them the points for the signup (if a Google action is also enabled). Please note the email action also works this way as well.
• If someone signs up via email. Then clicks Google signup, and inputs a different email, we’ll credit the lead for the first email that was used and log the Google Email Address as a custom field on the existing lead. This way we don’t create two leads.

Can I offer this in addition to a traditional form?

Yes. That’s recommended in case someone doesn’t participate with Google. Yes. Those people exist. 🙂

Disabling Contest Box:

The below steps are great for disabling Campaign box if you instead want to use the embedded version, want to use Anyform connected to your existing external form, or want to temporarily turn the box off on your external website.

1. From your Campaign Dashboard, select to Edit the Campaign Box. If you initially chose a pop-up/embed style campaign the Campaign Box will be located at the top of your Campaign Dashboard. If you instead chose Anyform or a landing page campaign type, the Campaign Box will be located toward the bottom of the Dashboard under “More Growth Tools.”
2. Select the “Settings” tab and turn the pop-up/open automatically settings to “Manual Only” and “None” This will turn off the Campaign Box visually unless you have it triggered by manual button/link click.

Disabling Contest Box when the Campaign is Over:

If you instead want to completely turn off the Campaign Box for instances when the campaign has ended, you’ll want to be sure to remove the KickoffLabs KOL.JS script that you initially added to the header area of your page/website when installing Campaign Box. This will completely disconnect your website from KickoffLabs.

8. Next, allow Zapier to login to your KickoffLabs account. Select the email filed in your typeform from the dropdown. You will need to ask for the lead’s email address as a question in your survey.
9. Choose kickofflabs Lead tag from drop-down to tag the lead.
10. Test the workflow and turn on your zap! Leads should now be tagged with filling out the Typeform in your KickoffLabs Account.

Tagging a Lead for Making a Purchase

7. Next, select KickoffLabs for the Action step in Zapier.
8. Next, select “Tag Lead” from the event dropdown. If you’d like to tag the lead who referred the purchaser, you’ll want to instead select “Tag Lead Parent.”
9. You’ll now be prompted to connect your KickoffLabs account to Zapier if you haven’t done so before. If you’ve connected your KickoffLabs account in the past, you’ll see your previously connected campaigns listed.

Before connecting to Zapier, first create a lead tag in KickoffLabs. Follow the steps here to create your first tag. 

1. To get started, login to Zapier and create a Zap.
2. Choose the app that you’d like to push leads from. In this example, we’ll be using Calendly.
3. Select “Invitee Created” from the trigger event drop-down.
4. Next, connect your Calendly account to Zapier.
5. Select “User” for the webhook and click continue.
6. Zapier will now test the connection. If there’s no issue, you’ll be able to move on to the next step.
7. Next, select KickoffLabs as the 2nd app. Then, select “Tag Lead” from the event trigger dropdown.
8. You’ll now be prompted to connect your KickoffLabs account to Zapier if you haven’t done so before. If you’ve connected your KickoffLabs account in the past, you’ll see your previously connected campaigns listed.
9. A new window will open to enter the KickoffLabs Campaign ID and API Key.
10. This can be found on the right side of  your KickoffLabs Zapier integration page (accessible in KickoffLabs via Setup > Integrations > Zapier). Once you enter the details and continue, the window should close and you’ll be taken back to your Zapier setup where you can continue setting up.

Validating Via Single Sender Verification

This is the easiest option, but it requires you to verify every from the address you wish to use and you may not see your email address properly in the from address since the emails will be sent based on SendGrid’s domains. (Users will see “via Sendgrid” next to your from address).

To get started with the validation process from your Sendgrid dashboard, select “Sender Authentication” from the side menu options.

Next, select the “Get Started” button to start the Single Sender Validation process.

On the next screen, enter the from email address you would like to use for your emails. You will also be required to enter your business address in order to comply with the CAN-SPAM act. After the changes are saved, you should receive a confirmation link to the email address you just connected to finalize the changes.

Verifying Via DNS

This option requires you add 3 CNAME DNS records, but has the benefit of covering all of the emails on your domain and will allow the from address to be properly displayed (This option removes the “via Sendgrid” in the from address). Long term, we would expect this to have the best deliverability as well. To get started, select the “Sender Authentication” from your Sendgrid dashboard.

Next, select “Authenticate Domain.”

On the next screen, select your DNS host from the drop-down menu and proceed to the next step.

Enter the domain that you would like to connect (the portion after the @ symbol in your email address).

Sendgrid will now generate 3 unique CNAME records for you to copy and paste into your DNS settings where your domain is being managed. Once the records are in place, click to “verify” the records. If the records were properly added, Sendgrid will display a message that everything is verified and ready to use. Otherwise, Sendgrid will display a specific error as to what needs your attention.
